Michael Doughty (OH 06) - Endeavour
In his final year at the Hall, Michael Doughty captained the 1st XI in an unbeaten season. He certainly impressed Matthew Foale, the master in charge who wrote in the magazine.
‘Michael Doughty is certainly one to watch. His ball control is superb and he had an exquisite and very cultured left foot’.
After The Hall, Michael went to Harrow where his football skills were quickly spotted and he joined the youth set-up at QPR .
Following successful loan spells with the likes of Stevenage, Gillingham and Woking (where he helped the team gain promotion back to the National League), Doughty made the breakthrough into QPR’s first-team squad with his first league start for Rangers at Huddersfield. His Premier League debut for QPR came on 10 February 2015 at the age of 22, when he came on as a 85th-minute substitute against Sunderland at Stadium of Light.
He has also been capped at under-19 level internationally for Wales, playing in a friendly against Liechtenstein and was selected in the Wales Under-21 squad for the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship.
He is currently signed to Swindon Town on a season-long loan having spent part of the 2015-16 season with them and scored five goals in 20 starts. Viewers of Match of the Day may have seen that ’cultured left foot’ in action in November as he scored for Swindon in the FA cup first round.
Michael returned to The Hall this term to talk to the boys about his career in professional football and share some of his footballing tips.
